FMU Army ROTC cadet commissioned

Cadet Octavia Chantal Brooks' swearing inCadet Octavia Chantal Brooks of Pelion received her U.S. Army officer’s commission at a ceremony at Francis Marion University on Friday, May 2.

Brooks took the oath of office and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. She will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in biology during FMU’s spring commencement on Saturday, May 3.

Upon graduation, Brooks will serve as a Quartermaster Platoon Leader in Company A of the 351st Aviation Support Battalion in Hartsville. She is the daughter of Marvin and Brenda Brooks.

FMU’s Army ROTC is a two-year program for veterans and members of the U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard or four years for students with no prior military experience. It incorporates classroom and practical training in leadership, organization, planning, decision-making and military skills. Two, three and four-year scholarships are available for qualified students.
