MAIL CENTER

The FMU Mail Center is responsible for the pick-up and delivery of campus, United States Postal Service and Interagency Mail Service mail. The Mail Center staff is charged with ensuring that members of the University community follow USPS and other mail service regulations and procedures. The Mail Center staff works with University departments to determine the most expedient and cost-effective methods for processing institutional mail in an effort to save time and money.

The Mail Center schedule includes a morning on-campus delivery/pickup and an afternoon on-campus delivery/pickup (see schedule below). To meet deadlines imposed by the Florence Post Office, mail generally leaves the Mail Center office for the Post Office at 3:30 p.m. each day.

*NOTE: Incoming mail to students living in campus housing is delivered by a USPS mail carrier directly to the Housing Office; Housing Office personnel then distribute mailpieces to the student mailboxes. It is important that the accurate student campus box number and street address be used on mail to residential students to avoid delayed or misdirected delivery. The FMU Mail Center does not generally handle incoming mail to residential students.

 

INTER-DEPARTMENTAL MAIL

Standard inter-departmental envelopes (brown kraft envelopes with string enclosure) should be used for on-campus mail. Delivery address should include name, department, and building. Large on-campus mailings should be sorted by building and department. All inter-departmental mail should be separated and easily distinguishable from outgoing mail to off-campus locations so that postage is not applied and charged to your departmental budget.

 

OUTGOING MAIL TO OFF-CAMPUS LOCATIONS

Your department's standard university stationery should be used for outgoing off-campus mailpieces. If stationery is not available, mailpiece must be clearly and legibly marked with school/department return address for accounting purposes. If the cost for postage is to be charged to a budget other than the school/department in the return address, please notify the Mail Services staff with the alternate budget number.

 

STAMP SALES

Postage stamps and #10 (business size) envelopes are available for purchase in the Mail Center; however, Mail Services does not provide other packaging. Parcels must be packaged per USPS guidelines prior to bringing to Mail Services for postage.

 

EXPRESS MAILING SERVICES

USPS Express and Priority mail services can be processed in the Mail Center. Other shipping services (Federal Express, UPS, etc.) are available through Central Receiving at the Warehouse (ext. 1156) and will be charged to the departmental budget.
