FMU Professor Richard Larsen dies

FLORENCE – Richard Larsen, professor of English at Francis Marion University, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, after battling cancer.  He is survived by Wanwadee Larsen of Florence, his wife, and James Larsen of Myrtle Beach, their son.

A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, Dec. 29 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church at 11 a.m.

Larsen earned his Ph.D. degree in American literature in 1973 and a M.A. degree in American literature in 1963 from Emory University.  He received a B.A. degree in English at Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1962.   He was a Fulbright Fellow to the University of Bologna, Italy, from 1968-69.

Prior to coming to FMU in 1984, the New Jersey native taught at Arkansas Tech University, Pembroke State University, Emory University and Georgia State University.  Larsen has published more than two dozen articles on literature and computer technology.
