Grooms receives scholarship at FMU

FLORENCE – Meredith Page Grooms of Scranton, has received the 1999 Dr. David R. Anderson and Eileen H. Anderson Scholarship to attend Francis Marion University.  Grooms, a biology major at Francis Marion, graduated from Florence Christian School, and is currently a freshman.

Dr. Anderson, a 1985 graduate of Francis Marion, and his wife, Eileen, recently established the scholarship fund to annually fully-fund one student’s college expenses while attending Francis Marion University.  At the time the couple established the fund, they challenged other graduates to do the same.

Dr. Anderson, who received a B.A. degree in biology from FMU, is currently a radiologist in private practice in Cape Girardeau, Mo.  Eileen attended FMU for two years before transferring to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.  David’s mother and two brothers are also FMU graduates.

“I’ve always felt gratitude toward FMU…” Dr. Anderson said, who received an FMU scholarship to attend college.  The Dr. David R. and Eileen H. Anderson Scholarship is awarded to FMU students who live in Darlington or Florence counties.  For other specifics regarding this scholarship or others, contact H. Scott Brown, director of Financial Assistance at FMU, at 843-661-1190.
