Francis Marion University Cancels Classes Until Monday

FLORENCE---Classes at Francis Marion University have been cancelled through Friday (Sept. 17) due to Hurricane Floyd.  All classes are expected to resume on a normal schedule Monday (Sept. 20).

All administrative and service offices of the university closed at noon today, except for essential and emergency personnel, under order from Gov. Jim Hodges who directed that all state agencies in a number of South

Carolina counties, including Florence County, be closed at noon today.

At this time, there is no determination about the status of the university's operation for employees beyond today.  Further announcements will be made when that decision is made.

Approximately 160 students, mostly international and out-of-state students, have remained in campus housing, and are being relocated to the Smith Center this afternoon to ride out the storm.
