FLORENCE -- Xiaoqun (David) Xu, associate professor of history at Francis Marion University, has signed a contract with Cambridge University Press for the publication in 2000 of his book, Chinese Professionals and the Republican State: the Rise of Professional Associations in Shanghai, 1912-1937.
In July 1999 Xu was invited to serve as a reviewer of grant proposals for the National Endowment for the Humanities. He reviewed and wrote comments on 35 applications for NEH Fellowships in African, Asian, and Latin American History and participated in the panel discussions on these proposals in Washington, D.C.
This voluntary service was separate from the 1998-99 NEH Fellowship Xu held. The tenure of that fellowship ended in May 1999.
