FMU employees train others

 FLORENCE -- Jane and Mike Madden, recently presented a workshop on “Technology in the Classroom” to teachers from Darlington County. 

Jane serves as Francis Marion University’s grant director and Mike is an associate professor of education. Communities in Schools of Darlington County coordinated the workshop. 

Recently the Darlington Communities in Schools program received a grant from the Sisters of Charity foundation in Columbia to purchase 10 computers for use in the county’s schools. 

Teachers were required to receive training regarding how to use the computers in the classroom.

Larsens make presentations

FLORENCE -- Husband-and-wife educators Richard and Wanwadee Larsen gave separate presentations at the 20th Annual International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts. 

Wanwadee, who teaches art at Florence-Darlington Tech, spoke on “The Fantastic in Traditional Thai Art.”  Her presentation was supplemented with over two dozen slides.

Richard, a professor of English at FMU, had as his topic “Elements of the Fantastic in The African Tales.”  The conference, held this year in Ft. Lauderdale and sponsored by Florida Atlantic University and the University of South Florida, annually draws more than 500 attendees.
