FMU employees, students donate 2,571 cans of food

FLORENCE – Francis Marion University faculty, staff and students collected 2,571 cans of food to donate to Manna House in Florence in a campus-wide canned-food drive.

The MUSC/FMU nursing program staff and students was the campus’ largest donor, giving 615 cans of food.  The department will receive a commemorative plaque later this semester for their top place in the competition.

The FMU psychology department and the FMU Baptist Student Union teamed up and organized the food drive.  The groups’ goal was to collect 1,999 cans in honor of the class of 1999.

Jeff Anastasi, assistant professor of psychology and psychology club adviser, said one point was awarded for each can of food placed in the department’s collection bin.  Bins were emptied and tallied each Friday.

The canned-food drive began Monday, Jan. 25, and ended Thursday, March 25.
