FLORENCE – Francis Marion University will host the Region I Special Olympics Spring Games on Tuesday, April 6 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
The Spring Games opening parade and ceremonies will be on the FMU track, behind the softball and baseball fields. More than 300 Special Olympians from the Pee Dee area, ranging in age from eight to 68 are expected to participate.
More than 200 FMU faculty, staff and students are expected to volunteer to assist with the event. Volunteers are paired with an athlete during the day, helping them to their competitions and cheering for them.
A training meeting for volunteers will be Thursday, April 1 at 2 p.m., and again on Monday, April 5 at 5 p.m. in the university’s Cauthen Educational Media Center lecture hall, room 114.
