FLORENCE---Robert T. Barrett has been named associate provost at Francis Marion University, effective March 15.
In this position, Barrett will be responsible for FMU’s graduate programs, summer school and distance learning and outreach activities.
A member of the FMU faculty since 1989, Barrett is currently serving as director of the Master of Business Administration program in the School of Business.
“I am delighted that Robert Barrett has accepted this position,” said FMU President Lee A. Vickers. “He was the unanimous choice of the search committee. Dr. Barrett has solid academic credentials and has demonstrated strong leadership abilities in heading up our MBA program. This has prepared him well to take a more prominent leadership role at Francis Marion University.”
Barrett came to FMU in 1989 as professor of management. Prior to that he was an assistant professor of management at Clemson University from 1984 to 1989. He also taught at Virginia Tech from 1981 to 1984 and at East Carolina University from 1978 to 1980.
Barrett earned his doctoral degree in management science and industrial engineering and operations research at Virginia Tech. He received an M.B.A. degree from East Carolina University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He has published a number of scholarly articles and made many research presentations, including several co-authored by FMU faculty colleagues.
Active in the Florence community, Barrett is a member of Central United Methodist Church and has been involved in activities at South Florence High School.
