FMU Public Relations Program Gets Merit Award

FLORENCE---Francis Marion University has been recognized in the 14th annual awards program sponsored by Admissions Marketing Report, a national newspaper of admissions marketing based in Atlanta.

The University Relations Office at FMU won a merit award for its total public relations program.  The award was presented for schools with enrollments between 2,000 and 4,999 students.

The gold award in that category went to the University of New England in Maine, the silver to Alcorn State University in Mississippi, and the bronze to Rockhurst College in Missouri.   FMU was one of three institutions receiving merit awards.  The other two were Chapman University in California and Southern Arkansas University.

More than 1,600 entries from throughout the nation were judged by Admissions Marketing Report in categories such as print and broadcast advertising, publications, direct mail, billboards, newsletters, annual reports, printed recruiting materials, logo/letterhead design and video production.

FMU’s entry included samples from its total public relations effort in support of the university’s admissions office, including catalogs, viewbooks, search pieces, visitors guides, recruiting video, print and broadcast promotional spots, billboards, student handbooks and posters.  The promotional campaign was built around a colorful FMU logo with a “Go Places” theme, developed by Stein Communications for the university’s recruiting materials last year.

This is the second award received by FMU’s University Relations Office in the last month.  District III of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) has earlier presented FMU with an Award of Excellence for its overall publications program at its yearly meeting in Charlotte.
