Gentry Scholarship established at FMU

FLORENCE – Kenneth and Betty Gentry of Darlington have established a scholarship with the Francis Marion University Foundation in memory of their daughter, an FMU alumna.

The Julia L. Gentry Nursing Scholarship will be funded with an endowment gift of $10,000. Julia Gentry was a 1982 graduate of FMU with a B.S. degree in business administration. She was also a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at FMU.

At the time of her death, Julia Gentry was pursuing a degree in nursing. She worked at the Center for Cancer Treatment and Research at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

The need-based scholarship will be awarded to an FMU student seeking a degree in nursing. Scholarship recipients may be selected from entering freshmen or other academic years, and the award is renewable.

“This gift will provide a perpetual and thoughtful tribute to Julia Gentry while assisting with the education of future nurses,” said Robert N. Sawyer, executive director of the FMU Foundation.

The award for the current academic year is $500.
