FLORENCE---Kathryn Phillips has been named director of financial assistance at Francis Marion University. She replaces Scott Brown who recently left FMU to take a job with a computer company in California.
A Florence native, Phillips has been employed at FMU for 28 years, including the last 14 as associate director of financial assistance. She has held positions in FMU’s human resources office, accounting and administrative services.
About 60 percent of FMU students receive some form of financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and student employment programs. More than $14 million in financial assistance was awarded to deserving students last year.
In other appointments, Kim Ellisor and Dale Gilchrist have been named associate directors of financial assistance, and Teresa Curry has been appointed a student services counselor.
Originally from Sumter, Ellisor will be responsible for scholarships, state-funded programs and athletics grants. She earned an undergraduate degree at FMU in 1993 and began working at FMU in 1996.
Gilchrist, a native of Latta who now lives in Blenheim, will be responsible for all federal aid programs. She began working at FMU in 1976 and earned a bachelor’s degree from FMU in 1989.
Formerly an administrative associate in the advancement office, Curry earned a business degree from FMU in 1992. A native of Latta, she has been employed at FMU since 1995.
