FLORENCE – The Francis Marion University 2000 Annual Fund Golf Classic, held at the Country Club of South Carolina on May 12, raised $11,460 for the university.
The 18-hole captain’s choice event raised $10,460 for Annual Fund scholarships, while $1,000 is earmarked for the Alumni-Faculty House.
The proceeds bring the total amount raised to more than $53,000 since the first tournament in 1996.
One hundred ten golfers participated in this year’s event.
Taking top honors in the low gross score category was the team of Billy Houck, Gregg Jones, Stephen Jones and Jay Saleeby. Second place in low gross score went to the team of Jimmy Brown, Willard Dorriety, Jimmy Finklea and Billy Hoylen.
The low net score winner was the team of Skip Crosland, Billy Drew, George McIntyre and Tim Norwood. The team of Charles Bryan, George Bryan, George Bryan IV and Jeff Sanderson took second in low net score.
Contest winners were Rod Ruth, Skip Crosland, John Senter, Travis Ward, Steve Martin, Matt “Cush” Sink, Gary Schmitz, Anthony Davis, Stoney Parnell, Mickey White, Gregg Jones, Baxter Hahn, David Reardon, Jimmy Finklea and Freddy Gamble.
All participants were treated to a post-tournament cookout sponsored by Santee Cooper. Other corporate sponsors were CP&L, Roche Carolina and Pepsi.
King Cadillac-Oldsmobile-GMC offered a 2000 GMC Sonoma pickup for a hole-in-one contest, and Southeastern Pension Management sponsored a “Putt for Cash” contest.
