Free writing course offered for area teachers

FLORENCE, S.C. - The Pee Dee Education Center and the Swamp Fox Writing Project are offering a summer-school course to Pee Dee teachers free of charge.

The Swamp Fox Writing Project is a collaboration between Francis Marion University and the National Writing Project.

“Writing and the Teaching of Writing” will be offered during the first summer session, June 12 –29. The class will meet from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday. The location of the class has yet to be determined.

The class helps teachers at all levels and in all disciplines build their understanding of the writing process and strengthen their own writing abilities. Following National Writing Project philosophies and models, the class has a workshop format, writing groups, and hands-on learning activities.

The instructor for the course is Gail Hayes, a teacher consultant with the Swamp Fox Writing Project.

The course is offered to teachers free of charge because of support from the Pee Dee Education Center. To enroll, teachers should speak with the Critical Teaching Needs Coordinator at their school or district, who will then contact the PDEC.
