FLORENCE, S.C. - Phi Alpha Theta, the national honor society in history, held its annual initiation and banquet on April 12. Fourteen students became new members of the Alpha Theta Zeta chapter at Francis Marion University. They are, by hometown:

Marion: Michael G. Sutton

Sumter: Jerry Willis Deal
All have completed at least 12 hours in history with a grade point average higher than 3.0, have a GPA of at least 3.0 in their other courses, and rank in the upper 35 percent of their class. The initiation ceremony was conducted by Glenn M. Ridings, president of the chapter, Keith Thomerson, secretary of the chapter, and Dr. Duane P. Myers, faculty adviser. Following the ceremony and the banquet, history professor Dr. Larry Nelson delivered a talk about human experience in the Civil War.
