FLORENCE – K. Wayne Pruitt, professor of education at Francis Marion University, was elected president of the South Carolina Association of Colleges of Teacher Education at the association’s spring conference at Benedict College in Columbia. He will serve as president through spring 2001.
Pruitt has been a faculty member in the FMU Department of Education for 28 years. He served as chair of the department for the last three years before returning to full-time teaching this year.
Pruitt hopes to utilize his many years of experience in his new role. His goals for the Assocation include updating the Constitution, clarifying membership roles, and making all South Carolina teacher educators aware of the teacher preparation issues facing the state and nation, including making teacher educators proactive participants in the Legislative and State Department of Education processes for education reform.
“Teacher educators are for the most part excluded from the decision- and policy-making process in the state,” Pruitt said. “We need to be more involved in shaping the future of our profession.”
