More Than 65 Employers to Recruit at FMU

FLORENCE---More than 65 employers will be looking to hire during a spring career fair to be held Wednesday, April 19, for students and alumni of Francis Marion University.

Scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. in Smith University Center gymnasium, employers from five states will be on hand to interview and talk to students about employment possibilities.

Lisa Mills, director of FMU’s Career Development Office, said that job prospects were good for graduating students because of the strong economy.

College graduates are in demand nationally and can expect to earn good salaries over the course of their lifetimes.  According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, a person with a four-year college degree will earn on average $600,000 more in a lifetime than a high school graduate and about $150,000 more than a two-year college graduate.

“This career fair is a good opportunity for FMU students and alumni to talk to recruiters from many businesses, industries, agencies and military services about job prospects,” she said.

Most of the employers planning to visit FMU are from South Carolina, but some are coming from as far as Florida, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Mills said employers can still sign up to participate by calling the Career Development Office at 843-661-1676.
