FMU instrumental and choral groups hold spring concerts

FLORENCE – The Francis Marion University Department of Fine Arts and Mass Communication presents Jazz Express and the Chamber Jazz Ensemble in a spring concert on Wednesday, April 5. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in McNair Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public; tickets or reservations are not required.

Selections by Jazz Express include “Out of Nowhere” by Edward Heyman and Johnny Green (arr. Mike Tomaro), “New Orleans Gumbo Jumbo” by Mike Carubia, “Send in the Clowns” by Stephen Sondheim (arr. Dave Barduhn), “Saturday Night Blues” by Les Hooper, “The Heat’s On” and “Samantha” by Sammy Nestico and “Granada Smoothie” by Mark Taylor

The Chamber Jazz Ensemble will perform “Songs for My Father” and “Nutville” by Horace Silver, and “Stolen Moments” by Oliver Nelson.

Upcoming musical performances at FMU include the April 18 spring choral concert featuring Cut Time, the FMU Singers, and the Concert Choir at 8 p.m. in the Kassab Recital Hall of the Hyman Fine Arts Building. The University’s Wind Ensemble spring concert will be Thursday, April 20 at 8 p.m. in McNair Auditorium.
