FLORENCE, S.C. – Rebecca Lawson, Ph.D. clinical psychology, has been named by Francis Marion University officials as the Director of the Counseling and Testing Center at the university.
David Kahn, former director of the center resigned his position effective Feb. 15. He is leaving to develop a private counseling practice.
“We thank David for his dedication to and support of Francis Marion University for the past five years,” interim Provost at FMU, Joseph E. Heyward said. “Effective Feb. 16, Dr. Lawson will become the new director. Dr. Lawson has demonstrated her ability to deal with students and mange administratively.” Lawson has served in the FMU Counseling and Testing Center since 1997.
Before coming to the university, Lawson served as senior clinician, psychiatric emergency room, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y. She earned her Ph.D. degree (1996) and her M.S. degree (1992), both in clinical psychology, from the University of Wyoming. She also holds a B.A. degree in psychology from Hanover College in Indiana.
