Mills To Head FMU's Career Development Office

FLORENCE---Sandra Lisa Mills of Columbia has been named director of Career Development at Francis Marion University.

The appointment was made by Darryl Bridges, assistant vice president for student development.  Mills assumes her position Feb. 14, replacing Jill Cornwell who left FMU last fall to move to the Greenville area.

“Lisa’s skills and experience will be a valuable asset to Francis Marion University students,” said Bridges.

The Career Development Office assists students with career planning and counseling, employment opportunities, career resources, volunteer opportunities and job development.  Among its duties the office helps students with resume writing, interviewing and job search techniques as well as sponsoring career fairs with employers.

Mills earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of South Carolina, where she also worked as an admissions counselor (1989-91) and educational talent search coordinator (1991-94).

She served as director of admissions at Allen University from 1994 to 1995, and was director of recruitment at Central Carolina Technical College in Sumter from 1995 to 1997.  After serving as director of Columbia’s Sylvan Learning Center from 1997 to 1998, she has been an educational consultant in Columbia for the last two years.
