FMU to present instrumental groups in concert on Nov. 16

FLORENCE – Francis Marion University’s Department of Fine Arts and Mass Communication will present the FMU Wind Symphony, Chamber Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Express in concert on Nov. 16.

 The concert is free and open to the public and will begin at 8 p.m. in the McNair Science Building auditorium.

 All three groups are directed by Craig Alberty, an assistant professor of music and director of instrumental activities at FMU. Two works written by Alberty are on the program: “Sheba” will be performed by the Wind Symphony and “So, What If …” will be performed by the Chamber Jazz Ensemble.

 The Wind Symphony’s program also includes “Hymn to the Fallen” by John Williams and “Dance of the Tumblers” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Selections to be performed by Jazz Express include “Theme from Shaft” by Isaac Hayes and “Georgia on My Mind” by Hoagy Carmichael.
