FMU team wins 2000 Psychology Bowl

FLORENCE, S.C. – A team from Francis Marion University won the 2000 Psychology Bowl at Columbia College on Oct. 5.

Each year the South Carolina Psychological Association sponsors the state competition among public and private universities and colleges. The competition tests undergraduate students’ knowledge of psychology across a broad array of content areas.

The FMU team defeated 12 other teams from across South Carolina.

The FMU team is comprised of the following students: William Brannen of Savannah, Ga.; Danielle Carter of Florence; Emily Reid of Reno, Nev.; Marian Stokes of Florence; and Veronica Velino of Greenville.

Faculty sponsors of the team are Jeff Anastasi and Laurie Sullivan Hunter. Graduate assistant Sandy Schultz also assisted the team in practicing.

The competition consisted of two rounds of multiple choice questions and a third round with a “Jeopardy!” style format. Categories included, but were not limited to, the following areas of psychology: developmental, learning, sensation/perception, social, memory, history and statistics.
