FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University Foundation recently elected board members and officers.
The FMU Foundation was organized in 1974 to provide a means for soliciting and accepting substantial gifts of money or property in order to build an endowment fund that would promote the educational mission and overall purpose of the university. The foundation is governed by a 35-member volunteer board of directors and currently has about $12 million in assets. Robert N. Sawyer is currently the executive director of the foundation.
Board members are elected to three-year staggered terms, and officers are elected to one-year terms.
Board members who were re-elected are: Larry Bartol, a State Farm Insurance agent; Dr. Stuart Greenberg of Florence Urological Associates; Mary Jane Holland; and Ken Jackson, a broker with Re/Max Professionals.
New board members are: Frank Avent, president of Pepsi Cola Bottling Co.; Ron Chatham of Roche Carolina; Dennis Dorman of Fleet Mortgage Group; Tom Ewart, senior vice president and Pee Dee area executive with Carolina First Bank; Emerson Gower, vice president of the Southern region for Carolina Power and Light; Floyd Keels, president and CEO of Santee Electric Cooperative; Ashpy Lowrimore, regional president of BB&T; David McClellan, CEO of Carolinas Hospital System; Tim Norwood, executive vice president for marketing of SMS Management Services; Jennie O’Bryan; Carolyn Pearce, vice president of Pearce and Pearce; Dr. Ian Smith of Advanced Cardiology Consultants; Tom Smith of the Thomas E. Smith Jr. Law Firm in Pamplico; E. Hood Temple of the Hyman Law Firm; Carroll Webster of Webster, Rogers and Co. LLP; and Frank Willis, mayor of Florence and chairman and CEO of the Willis Construction Co.
Foundation officers are: chairman Dr. Sompong Kraikit, a physician with Pee Dee Nephrology; vice chairman Jay Vinson, a partner with McDougall and Self LLP; secretary Larry Bartol, a State Farm Insurance agent; and treasurer Robert Williams, president and CEO of Pee Dee Electric Cooperative.
