Rachel Pack crowned Ms. FMU

FLORENCE, S.C. – Rachel Pack of Hinton, W.V., was crowned Ms. FMU during the annual pageant at Francis Marion University, April 10.

Pack was also named Ms. Congeniality. A junior mass communication major, Pack is involved with the Baptist Student Union on campus and works at the FMU Writing Center. Upon graduation, she plans to pursue a career as a sports broadcaster.

Amber Tomlinson of Florence was named first runner-up in the pageant. She is a sophomore and is involved in Alpha Delta Pi sorority, the Psychology Club, the Environmental Club, intramural sports, Special Olympics, and the Baptist Student Union. She plans to become an elementary school teacher.

Niki Chavis of Florence was selected second runner-up. She is a freshman and is involved in numerous community service efforts, including the Pee Dee Coalition against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, Toys for Tots, Kids Depot, Special Olympics, Manna House, and It’s O.K. to Wait. She is also an intern at WPDE-TV 15 and a member of the Florence Little Theatre’s Acting Guild and the S.C. Dance Theatre. She plans to attend graduate school and become a broadcaster.

Ms. FMU represents the university at various functions throughout her reign. She also assists with high school recruitment and community service projects sponsored by the university. The outgoing Ms. FMU is April Mills of Aynor.

Ms. FMU must be a full-time student, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0, and choose a community service project. The winner is selected based on an interview, pageant performance and overall bearing and ability to best represent Francis Marion University.
