Anonymous donor gives recreational swimming pool to FMU

FLORENCE, S.C. – Thanks to the generosity of a local anonymous donor, Francis Marion University is getting a new recreational outdoor swimming pool.

Construction of the approximately 2,000-square-foot pool is expected to begin at the end of April and be complete by the beginning of the fall semester. The pool will be located behind the Hyman Fine Arts Center, near the volleyball courts and student housing. The work is being done by Price Carolina Aquatech Pools of Florence.

The pool is a gift to the FMU Foundation, which in turn is handing it over to the university. The purpose of the swimming pool is to provide recreational opportunities to students, faculty, staff and friends of the university.

The pool will be five-and-a-half feet deep at its deepest point and will include an approximately 4,500-square-foot sundeck, landscaping and a fence. Pool furniture and other related items have been supplied by various donors. The facility will also include restrooms and an equipment storage area.
