FMU faculty members active in Philological Association

FLORENCE, S.C. – Several Francis Marion University faculty members have been elected to key positions in the Philological Association of the Carolinas, a regional association covering North and South Carolina.

George Harding, associate professor of German, was elected president of the association for the coming year during the 2001 conference held at the College of Charleston, March 1-3.  Christopher Johnson, chair of Department of English, Modern Languages and Philosophy at FMU, holds the office of first vice president. Rebecca Flannagan, assistant professor of English, will continue to serve as editor of the association’s official journal, “Postscripts.”  Peter Whelan, associate professor of English, is a past president of the association.

Several members of the Department of English, Modern Languages and Philosophy also chaired sessions and presented papers at the conference.

The 2002 conference of the Philological Association of the Carolinas will be held at the University of North Carolina-Asheville.
