Butch Thompson Trio to perform at FMU

FLORENCE – The Butch Thompson Trio will perform in concert on Saturday, March 24, at Francis Marion University.

The performance, which begins at 8 p.m. in the Hyman Fine Arts Center’s Adele Kassab Recital Hall, is free and open to the public.

The jazz trio is well known for its long run on public radio’s “A Prairie Home Companion” with Garrison Keillor. The group specializes in the music of Scott Joplin, Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller and other heroes of early jazz. A typical concert by the trio includes jazz, blues, ragtime, and pop songs laced with Thompson’s entertaining and informative commentary.

The trio consists of pianist Thompson, bassist Marty Eggers and drummer Hal Smith.

For more information, call the FMU Department of Fine Arts and Mass Communication at 843-661-1385, or visit Thompson’s website at www.butchthompson.com.
