FMU Theatre to present "6 Rms Riv Vu"

FLORENCE – The Francis Marion University Theatre will present Bob Randall's comedy hit, 6 Rms Riv Vu (Six Rooms River View), Feb. 21-24.

The play will begin nightly at 8 p.m. in the Hyman Fine Arts Center theatre and admission is free. Reservations may be made beginning Feb. 12 by calling the box office at 843-661-1365. The box office will be open to reserve seats Monday through Friday from 1-5 p.m.

The N.Y. Times called 6 Rms Riv Vu “a Broadway comedy of fun and class… Two people playing out a very vital game of love, an attractive fantasy with a precious tincture of truth.”

A vacant apartment with a river view is open for inspection by prospective tenants, and among them are a man and a woman, Paul and Anne (played by Jason Abernathy of Columbia and Aubrey Phillips of Florence), who have never met before. They are the last to leave and when they get ready to depart, they find that the doorknob is missing and they are locked in. Since they are attractive young people, they find each other interesting; and the fact that both are happily married juxtaposes their mutual delight in each other’s company against their moral struggles as to what could happen during their confinement.

Rounding out the cast are Andy Matthews of Timmonsville as the Building Super, Erin Holladay of Chester as the Woman In 4-A, Rui Jiang of Florence as the Pregnant Woman, Mark Baloya of Summerville as her husband Larry, and Jessica Willis of Saluda and Greg Williams of Conway as Paul and Anne’s respective spouses.

The play is directed by FMU associate professor of theatre David C. Granath, assisted by Melissa Cross of Jackson and Ashley Daniels of Marion. Scenic design is by associate professor of theatre Keith Best, with costume design by assistant professor of theatre Amy Sherwood and lighting design by Granath.
