FLORENCE, S.C. – The Reducing Our Assault Risk (ROAR) program at Francis Marion University is holding events Oct. 22-26 in recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
ROAR will hold a “Shelter Needs Drive” for the women’s shelter in Florence. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 22-26, a box will be set up in the Smith University Center on campus for donations to the shelter. Items requested include toiletries such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and washcloths, as well as canned goods. Purple ribbons will also be distributed at the university center during this time to increase awareness of domestic violence.
ROAR will also sponsor self-defense classes on Tuesday, Oct. 23, and Thursday, Oct. 25, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Room 219 of the university center. The classes are free to FMU students, and are offered every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the semester.
