FLORENCE, S.C.- Francis Marion University junior right-hander Kyle Lucas has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference “Pitcher of the Week” for the week ending March 18.

 The 6-5 Lancaster native won his only start last week, striking out 16 Virginia State University batters in a 10-2 Patriot win on March 14.  He allowed only six hits and walked only one batter, while throwing 97 pitches in the complete-game effort.

The 16 strikeouts were one away from the school single-game record set by Willie Bell in 1975 and equaled by Jeff Schassler in 1981.

 Lucas struck out the side in the first, third, and seventh innings, and he fanned at least one batter in all but one inning.
