Florence, S.C.- Francis Marion University’s Amy Birch was named Peach Belt Conference “Player of the Week” for her performance on the softball field during the week ending February 25.

 Birch, a sophomore, made her presence felt from everywhere on the field, as Francis Marion improved to 8-0 with two doubleheader sweeps of Newberry College and Belmont Abbey College.  During those two series, Birch batted .700, with two walks, three runs scored, two doubles, and six runs batted in.  She was also 2-0 on the mound for the undefeated Patriots.

 The Patriots look to continue their winning ways this weekend (Mar. 2-3) as they travel to Carrollton, Ga., to play four games in the West Georgia Tournament.  

 Francis Marion will play its next home game March 9-11, as they will host the Patriot Invitational Tournament at the Freedom Florence Softball Complex.
