FMU ATHLETICS TO HOLD AUCTION ON SATURDAY, FEB. 17

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University Athletic Department will hold its third-annual Swamp Fox Club Benefit Auction, Saturday afternoon and evening, Feb. 17.

The auction is being held in conjunction with that day’s Spirit Week festivities and the men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader with Kennesaw State University.  The women’s game will begin at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 4 p.m.

The auction will consist of two parts: a silent auction from 1 to 5 p.m. and a live auction and gala from 6:30 to 10 p.m.  Both will be held in the Smith University Center commons.

Participants will have the opportunity to place bids on items in the silent auction until bidding closes at 5 p.m., and then the merchandise will be awarded.  The silent auction is open to the public free of charge.

Tickets for the live auction and gala are $5 for Swamp Fox Club members (Coaches Club level or above) and $10 for all others. The evening will include a disc jockey and heavy hor d’oeuvres. Participants in the live auction must be 21 years old.  Tickets are available from the Francis Marion athletic office (843-661-1240) and can be purchased at the door.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Patriot athletic scholarship fund.  Over the past two years, the event has raised more than $7,400.

This year, more than 250 items have been donated from local and national outlets.

Among the items in the silent auction will be gift certificates and admission passes, sports apparel, photographs, golf and tennis equipment, books, various services from Companion Veterinary Care Center in Florence, and numerous autographed items, including both sports and non-sports figures (Dick Vitale, Drew Pearson, Arnold Palmer, Jimmy Buffett, Joe Pesci, Kathy Ireland, Bill Gates, Drew Barrymore, Eddie Robinson, Dan Reeves, Jessie Tuggle, Tom Clancy, the Green Bay Packers).

Among the items in the live auction are vacation/getaway packages; golf packages; lasik eye surgery; a Shannons Wild Haven hunting trip; a Samuri 2100 DG Digital Camera; a La-Z-Boy recliner; a pair of memberships to the Crossings Golf Club: a watch; a New York Knicks basketball; two tickets to a Darlington race; a three-month family membership to the Florence YMCA; a Shaquille O’Neal photo; a Dale Jarrett photograph; an AKC registered Golden Retriever puppy; an autographed Pee Dee Pride jersey and stick; and a chance to be a “Coach for the Night” for the Patriot basketball, baseball, and softball teams.
