FLORENCE, S.C. - The Francis Marion University golf program was the beneficiary of a check for more than $13,000 from the inaugural “Carolina Bank Corporate Challenge” golf tournament, hosted by The Country Club of South Carolina this past September.
The event drew participation from nearly 100 local business executives, who contributed to the success of this new fund-raising tournament. The proceeds will be used to fund a scholarship and also meet some of the FMU golf program’s operating needs.
Additional proceeds from the tournament went to the South Carolina Junior Golf Association.
At the recent check presentation, Carolina Bank President Rick Beasley expressed his bank’s confidence in the future of the tournament. “We were pleased with the response for this year’s first effort, and I would expect that next year’s event will be even bigger, which will allow us to make a larger donation to FMU and Junior Golf.”
Accepting the check on behalf of Francis Marion were golf coach Jonathan Burnett and university President Dr. Luther F. Carter.
Francis Marion is the defending Peach Belt Conference champion, and is ranked 17th in the latest NCAA Division II national poll.
