FLORENCE, S.C. – For the second consecutive year, Francis Marion University psychology professor Tom Dorsel, Ph.D., has been named the recipient of the “Outstanding Achievement Award” presented by the International Network of Golf, during that organization’s 11th-annual meeting at the Treetops Resort in Gaylord, Mich.
The award was presented to Dorsel for his sport psychology contributions to Golf Illustrated. He has been writing for the magazine since 1996, and currently contributes a feature article for every issue.
Prior to joining the FMU faculty 15 years ago, Dorsel taught for 12 years at Western Carolina University. He earned degrees from the Universities of Notre Dame, Kentucky, and New Mexico, and completed a post-doctoral internship in clinical psychology at the University of California at Davis Medical Center. He is a past president of the South Carolina Psychological Association.
Dorsel is the host of “Hilton Head Golf Weekly” on WHHI-TV in Hilton Head Island, and his instructional features have appeared regularly on ESPN’s “Inside the PGA Tour” series. He is the author of “The Complete Golfer: Physical Skill & Mental Toughness,” and is in the process of completing another book that is due out this summer.
