FLORENCE, S.C. – The South Carolina Head Start Association has selected Francis Marion University as winner of its Corporate Award. FMU was nominated by Pee Dee Community Action Agency Head Start.
The award was presented at the association’s annual conference in Myrtle Beach.
The award places FMU as a Region IV association nominee for the Corporate Award. If nominated by the Region IV association, FMU is then eligible for the National Head Start Association awards in 2003.
FMU faculty/staff members who are members of the Pee Dee CAA Head Start Health Services and or Education Services Advisory Committees are Rebecca Lawson (chair), Leslie Barnes-Young, Rebecca Lunn, Stacey Spence, Laurie Sullivan-Hunter and Dorothy Harris.
The FMU personnel provide workshops in the areas of early childhood growth/development, disabilities, stress management and behavior management. They also collaborate with Pee Dee CAA Head Start by providing classroom volunteers through FMU’s Psychology and Education Departments, and conduct developmental screenings on enrolled children.
Pee Dee CAA Head Start provides education, health, nutrition, mental health, transportation and disability services for 899 children and families in Florence, Dillon and Marion counties.
