Drs. Sitti establish endowed scholarship at FMU

FLORENCE, S.C. – Drs. Sarawadee and Orachun Sitti have pledged $25,000 to the Francis Marion University Foundation to establish an endowed scholarship as part of FMU’s Campaign for Excellence, a five-year, $12 million fund-raising drive.

The Drs. Sarawadee and Orachun Sitti Scholarship will be awarded to an FMU student majoring in chemistry, physics or biology. The recipient must be a junior or senior and have a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. The recipient must demonstrate financial need, and repeat awards will be allowed.

The Sittis are originally from Thailand and have a medical practice in Florence. Sarawadee has been in Florence for 20 years and is a nephrologist. Orachun has been in Florence for 16 years and is a hematologist and oncologist. The sisters are longtime contributors to FMU’s Annual Fund. They came to Florence through their acquaintance with Dr. Sompong Kraikit, a local physician who is also chairman of the FMU Foundation Board of Directors.

“This community has been so good to us,” Orachun said. “If we can give something back, we are glad to.”
