FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University celebrated the opening of its new recreational outdoor swimming pool with a “Splash Bash” on April 15.

 FMU students, faculty and staff were treated to swimming, music and Caribbean food.

The pool was given to the university by a local anonymous donor.

 The approximately 2,000-square-foot pool is located behind the Hyman Fine Arts Center, near the volleyball courts and student housing. The work was done by Price Carolina Aquatech Pools of Florence.

The purpose of the swimming pool is to provide recreational opportunities to students, faculty, staff and friends of the university.

 The pool is five-and-a-half feet deep at its deepest point and includes an approximately 4,500-square-foot sundeck, landscaping and a fence. Pool furniture and other related items have been supplied by various donors. The facility also includes restrooms and an equipment storage area.
