FMU to present Paul Sillis' Story Theatre, April 10-13

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University Theatre will present Paul Sills’ Story Theatre, April 10-13.

The performances will begin at 8 p.m. in the Hyman Fine Arts Center’s theatre on the university campus. There will also be two matinee performances, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., in conjunction with FMU’s annual Art’s Alive festival on Saturday, April 13.

Tickets for all performances are free and can be reserved by calling the box office at 843-661-1365 between 1 and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The play is directed by Glen Gourley, associate professor of theatre arts at FMU. He will be assisted by Jessica Allison of Cheraw. The play is an adaptation of selections from Grimm’s Fairy Tales and Aeosop’s Fables, featuring such stories as “Henny Penny,” “The Golden Goose,” “The Fisherman and his Wife,” and “Venus and the Cat,” just to name a few.

These dramatizations, accessible to both children and adults, will be presented much in the style of the commedia dell arte’ traveling players. The performers will stage the show as though they have just “pulled into town” and are performing for a gathering audience.
