FMU Trustees To Meet On Campus Jan. 25
FLORENCE---The Francis Marion University Board of Trustees will hold its quarterly meeting Friday, Jan. 25, at 2:30 p.m. in the President’s Dining Room of Ervin Dining Hall.
Several resolutions will be considered by the trustees, including one that would amend the bylaws to permit the board to elect officers biannually and that the chair, vice chair and secretary serve a single two-year term instead of one-year terms. Other bylaw changes will enable the Executive Committee to be comprised of the officers of the board and chairs of standing committees.
Another resolution would authorize the president to pursue modifications to the enabling legislation to remove the restriction that the board conduct its meetings only in Florence.
A third resolution would authorize the president to seek approval from the Budget and Control Board to implement a pilot program for a modified work schedule for the university during summer school sessions. It is proposed that from May 27 to Aug. 9 a cost savings can be obtained by closing offices and buildings on Fridays at 11:30 a.m. and modifying the work schedule during this period to 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. This modified schedule maintains the 37.5-hour employee workweek specified in state law.
Two final resolutions would grant the president the authority to establish a quasi endowment fund and to implement a change to the graduation program to allow baccalaureate candidates for degrees to wear hoods.
The trustees will also hear reports from President Fred Carter and the various board committees.
Trustee committees will meet as follows on Jan. 25: at 8:30 a.m., Executive Affairs in Hendrick Dining Room; at 9:30 a.m., Future Studies in Palmetto East and Financial Affairs and Responsibility in Palmetto West; at 10:30 a.m., Academic Affairs and Shared Governance in Palmetto West and Student Affairs and Advancement in Palmetto East; at 11:30 a.m., a campus tour; at 1:30 p.m., Alumni Development in Palmetto East and University Development in Palmetto West.
