FMU Listed in "Great Colleges for the Real World" Book

FLORENCE---Author Michael Viollt has named Francis Marion University one of the “Great Colleges for the Real World” in his book by the same name.

FMU is among 201 baccalaureate colleges across the country featured in the book, published in late 2001.  Viollt, the president of Robert Morris College in Chicago, evaluated the colleges in five summary areas:

• Opportunity for the general student population to get into and pay for a college.

• The relative success of previous classes in graduating in a timely fashion.

• The commitment made by the school to develop career opportunities.

• The overall college experience.

• Recent market response to the college or university.

Within these broad categories, specific criteria were reviewed and weighted for each institution.  A computer model was designed and loaded with data from one or more of the following sources:  public information from national database sources, institutional surveys, institutional web sites and institutional publications.

FMU is one of 11 South Carolina public and private colleges listed in the book. Published by Octameron Associates of Alexandria, Va., the book is $9 and more information is available at www.octameron.com.
