FLORENCE, S.C. – Twenty-six South Carolina residents, primarily from the Pee Dee, are participating in the Non-Profit Leadership Institute at Francis Marion University.
Initially funded by a $75,000 grant from the Doctors Bruce and Lee Foundation of Florence, the institute provides leadership training for non-profit groups in the Pee Dee region. The effort is also being supported by an evaluation grant from the PSARAS Foundation of Columbia.
The first session of the seven-month training program was held Sept. 20 and the second and third sessions were held Oct. 24 and 25. The fourth session is slated for Nov. 22.
Topics include leadership; program development and delivery; human resource development, including board members and volunteers; effective financial resource development and management; programmatic and organizational issues related to data collection and reporting; visibility, including managing external relations; and case studies.
Fred Sheheen, former commissioner and executive director of the S.C. Commission on Higher Education, is director of the FMU institute.
