FLORENCE, S.C. – The Swamp Fox Writing Project at Francis Marion University is sponsoring a writing contest in celebration of the centennial of Langston Hughes’ birth.

 There are four categories in the contest: Primary (grades K-3), Elementary (grades 4-6), Middle (grades 6-8), and High School (grades 9-12).

 Writers entering the contest may choose from several topics related to Hughes, an African-American writer. Topics and formats vary by category.

The deadline for submissions is Dec. 15, 2002. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place and honorable mention in each category.
