Sonoco's Harrell speaks at FMU Convocation

FLORENCE, S.C. – James “Artie” Harrell III of Sonoco Products Co. addressed Francis Marion University’s more than 700 incoming freshmen at the university’s New Student Convocation on Aug. 20.

Harrell, a Society Hill native and 1985 graduate of FMU, spoke to the new students about leadership and reflected on his days as an FMU student. “From this point forward, your possibilities are endless,” he said.

Harrell joined Sonoco as a quality manager in 1985. Since then, he has held a variety of management positions with the Hartsville-based company around the country and the world. He is currently the senior operations manager for the company’s industrial products division in Europe, and is pursuing an executive international M.B.A. at Duke University.

Incoming students also heard remarks from FMU President Luther F. Carter, Provost Richard N. Chapman, and Student Government Association President DoQuoi T. Green.
