FLORENCE, S.C. – The Wallace Woods Nature Trail on the campus of Francis Marion University is available for public tours.
The half-mile trail is located behind the Hewn Timber Houses near Gate 6. The trail has more than 60 marked plants and offers opportunities to see animals that are native to the Pee Dee.
Monthly guided nature walks are open to the public. The next public walk is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. The tour will meet in front of the Hewn Timber Houses.
Guided nature walks are also available to school and community groups by appointment. To schedule an appointment, contact Sherry White in FMU’s Department of Physics and Astronomy at 843-661-1381.
Guidebooks are available to educators so they may lead nature walks for their students along the trail. Copies of the guidebook may be checked out from FMU’s James A. Rogers Library and the Florence County Library.
The Wallace Woods Nature Trail was made possible by a grant from the National Wildlife Federation and an anonymous donor. For more information about the trail, call FMU’s Department of Biology at 843-661-1382.
