FLORENCE---Wayne V. Platt of Dillon and Travis W. Ragsdale of Florence have been named outstanding staff employees of the year at Francis Marion University.
The awards were presented July 30 during the staff awards luncheon, which also honored FMU employees for length of state service.
Platt is a special projects supervisor in custodial services, and Ragsdale is lab manager in the Chemistry Department.
Platt has been employed at FMU for six years and Ragsdale for 29 years. Both were cited for their dedication to their jobs and for service above and beyond the call of duty.
President Carter and State Rep. Mack T. Hines presented Platt and Ragsdale with plaques and $1,000 checks in recognition of winning this annual award for FMU employees.
Gary Hanson of Florence, vice president for administration, was cited for 30 years of service. Frank A. Braddock of Marion, superintendent of plant operations, Yvonne G. Davis of Quinby, coordinator of monographs/electronic resources in Rogers Library, Terry H. Hunt of Florence, senior administrative associate in telecommunications and payroll, and Vivis M. Purvis of Darlington, head cashier in accounting, were all honored for 20 years of service.
Employees recognized with 10 years of service were Howard M. Byrd Jr. of Lugoff, director of programming services in Administrative Computing Services; Wendy M. Moore of Pamplico, senior technical assistant, cataloging, Rogers Library; Melvin T. Roberts of Florence, supervisor of custodial services; Kelly A. Sellers of Latta, director of alumni affairs; Steven C. Sims of Marion, senior technical assistant, circulation, Rogers Library; and Derrick E. Young of Dalzell, assistant coordinator of campus recreation.
Two employees who are retiring from FMU were also recognized. They are Dorothy M. Davis of Marion, chief cook in dining services, 21 years, and Robert L. Evans of Rains, groundskeeper, five years.
