FLORENCE, SC - The Francis Marion University men's and women's cross country teams will host the 15th-annual FMU Invitational Meet on Saturday morning (Sept. 28).

The meet will begin at 8:45 a.m. with the 8,000-meter men’s race, followed by the women's 5,000-meter race at approximately 9:45 a.m.  Admission is free.

Eighteen schools from four states are expected to participate.  Twelve of the schools are from South Carolina and will compete for the inaugural Little Palmetto State Championship (non-Division I schools).

The FMU men have won their invitational each of the past seven years, while the Patriot women have posted three first-place finishes (1997, 1998, 1999) and a pair of runner-up finishes (2000, 2001) in the past five FMU Invitationals.

The newly designed FMU course begins near the running track behind Cormell (baseball) Field, and the finish line is also located next to the baseball field.

The teams participating are FMU, Anderson College, Bluffton (Ohio) College, Claflin College, Clayton College & State University, Coker College, Columbia College, Converse College, Defiance (Ohio) College, Georgia College & State University, Lander University, Limestone College, Mount Olive College, UNC Pembroke, North Greenville College, Presbyterian College, Spartanburg Methodist College, and USC Aiken.
