FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University women’s soccer team, riding a five-match winning streak, has moved into the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25 poll for the first time in 2002, occupying the No. 22 position.
The 6-1 Patriots played unbeaten Catawba College, Tuesday afternoon, and will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., on Saturday (Sept. 28) to face 15th-ranked University of North Florida in a key Peach Belt Conference showdown.
The young FMU program has made a habit of appearing in the national rankings. Francis Marion was ranked in two polls during the 2001 season, appeared in 10 of 11 polls during the 2000 campaign, and earned two rankings during the 1999 season. Between 1996 and Sept. 20, 1999, the Patriots appeared in 32 consecutive Top 25 polls.
Northern Kentucky University occupies the No. 1 position in this week’s Top 25 with an 8-0-0 record.
Francis Marion is also ranked third in this week’s NSCAA Southeast Regional rankings, behind Presbyterian College (7-0-0) and UNF (6-1-1).
