USC shortstop to transfer to FMU

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University baseball coach Art Inabinet has announced that sophomore shortstop Jason Weaver of Lake City will transfer from the University of South Carolina and join the FMU program this fall.

Weaver, a 5-10, 175-pound switch-hitter, is a 2000 graduate of Lake City High School, where he played for coach Greg Streett. During his senior year, he was Lake City’s baseball MVP and a N.C./S.C. All-Star selection.

Weaver was red-shirted his freshman year by the Gamecock squad that reached the championship game of the College World Series. He is currently playing infield for the Florence Red Wolves and is carrying a .261 batting average.

“Jason can run, throw and hit. He’s a multi-tool player,” said Inabinet. “I’m thrilled that he’s going to play for us. He will represent FMU well on the field and in the classroom.”

Francis Marion loses four seniors off last season’s 26-27 squad that finished sixth during the Peach Belt Conference regular season.
