FMU Baseball Holds "Diamond Kids Day" on Saturday

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University baseball team will celebrate “Diamond Kids Day” when the Patriots open their 2002 season on Saturday (Feb. 2) with a doubleheader against Barton College.

The first game of the doubleheader will begin at noon on Cormell Field.  FMU President Dr. Fred Carter will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

All boys and girls, ages 7-12, wearing their uniforms (baseball or softball) from the 2001 season will be admitted free and will be invited to participate in pre-game ceremonies.  Those youngsters interested in taking part with the 2002 Patriot team members in pre-game activities should report to Cormell Field at 11:40 a.m. (20 minutes prior to the first pitch).

Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.  Swamp Fox Club members will be admitted free with their season passes.

“We are hoping to involve as many area youth players as possible,” FMU head coach Art Inabinet said.  “This is our opening day, and with local youth leagues getting set to begin play soon, we are trying to get everyone excited about the start of baseball season.”

Francis Marion returns 13 lettermen from last season’s 24-27 squad.  Thirty-one of the 36 Patriot roster members for 2002 are from South Carolina.
